Welcome to Shekinah's First grade class!

I'd like to introduce myself...

I am blessed to be the first grade teacher.  I first became interested in teaching when my middle school teacher  encouraged me to pursue teaching after she observed me working with younger children.  After high school I attended Eastern Mennonite College, earning a BS in Education in 1962, and went directly to the classroom.  While I was teaching I earned my Masters in El. Ed. at Frostburg State College in evening classes and summer school.  I spent 22 years in the public schools, primarily in Eastern Kentucky.  After caring for my parents in their last four years, I came to Rosedale Bible College, taking classes and working on staff for six years.  Then Shekinah called me to teach.  I am now in my 23rd year at Shekinah.  First grade is my favorite grade to teach.  Guiding them in developing their "reading wings" brings a lot of satisfaction. I really enjoy watching them excitedly apply the phonics rules they have learned to words they find in other settings.  They are eager to learn and are fascinated with everything!  The smaller class size at Shekinah is so beneficial.  I have more time to give individual attention as well as pursuing subjects to a greater depth.  Having taught in the public schools, I really enjoy not only being allowed, but expected to share my faith with my students.  It is also such a plus to share a common faith and love among the staff.  Shekinah has a caring family atmosphere!  I have been so blessed to teach here.
