I'd like to introduce myself...
This year I teach the 7th - 8th grade English class, School Publications and 9th & 10th grade girls' Health class. I also serve in the guidance department, helping with class schedules, transcripts and other counseling responsibilities.
I grew up on a farm in Iowa. Following my graduation from Goshen College, Goshen, IN, in 1979, I taught at Pathway Christian School in Kalona, Iowa, for two years. In 1981, I began teaching at Shekinah, and after a year of teaching in the high school, I married Arnold Shetler, who also joined the teaching staff at Shekinah.
I became a stay-at-home mom in 1985, but stayed involved. Several of the ways I stayed connected with Shekinah were by serving as the janitor from 1992-2013, by helping to develop an alumni section in the monthly newsletter in 1997, and by supporting my husband who was the administrator from 1986-2013. When our youngest child started first grade in 2000, I came back to Shekinah to teach. In October of 2016, I completed a program through Walden University earning a Master of Science in education with a specialization in Teaching English Language Learners.
Our four children graduated from Shekinah, and I am very grateful for the opportunity they had to come to a school where Biblical principles are integrated into every part of their educational experiences. Parenting has impacted my teaching, and I try to view the students who come through my classes as though they are my own. I love staying in contact with alumni of Shekinah and hearing what they are accomplishing.
Students in my classes can access their grades, and daily assignments through Quick Schools. You are welcome to call, text, or email me or stop by to see me in the guidance office or in Room 109A.
